   Finally, a decent-looking shoe that I can wear despite my plantar fascitis and lack of proprioception in one foot! Once I swapped the removable insoles for the Spenco ones my doctor told me to use, the sole bends in the toe area but not in the arch, so that is good for my plantar fascitis.
   
   And it has no real heel to speak of and the soles are really flat, and it comes up to/over my ankle, so I can wear it without twisting my ankle (even though I can't tell which way one foot is pointed without looking at it--I can twist my ankle in gym shoes if I'm not careful).
   
   Although this shoe is said to run small, that is not true if you replace the (rather tall) removable cork insoles with Spencos, which are thinner. It took 5-10 minutes to pry out the old insoles, but that is a small price to pay for office-appropriate foot comfort. Fooey upon all designers of women's shoes--they seem determined to not make shoes I can wear, but these Birkie unisex numbers have foiled their evil plan! (Posted on 9/7/11)
